I’m Bryan of Bryan Appleton Designs and I’m a carpenter, artist, father, and an outdoor adventure enthusiast. I love to create furniture and other objects from relics gathered at flea markets, jobsite dumpsters, the local dump, you name it! These relics include antique victorian hardware, architectural elements from old houses, unique and interesting bits of painted wood, iron, and glass. Most of what I make is functional- a cabinet, hat rack, mirror, etc. Some things just sit there and look interesting. It is my passion, and I call it art! When I am not creating, I can be found hunting the local flea markets, scrounging thru dumpsters in Pacific Heights, or at play on my mountain bike or skiing in the Sierra’s.

Furniture

Furniture

Welcome to the furniture section of Bryan Appleton Designs. This is where I will display an archive of all pieces made. Whatever is available for sale will be located in “available pieces”. The other three photo files are examples of my work. Since all my materials are salvage(and limited in quantity), my pieces are in most cases one of a kind. All pieces are signed and numbered. I do many custom pieces, and the archives are to give you ideas, examples of what I can make for you. Feel free to contact me with questions, and in some cases I can recreate a piece if I salvaged the material in sufficient qauntities. Enjoy!

Planter Boxes

Planter Boxes

About12 years ago I started a business, Barnwood Boxes. I took redwood decks, remilled the 2×6 lumber, and created the raw material for my boxes. That business did not last, but my boxes have! Many of my boxes went to friends and family, and they are still standing today. The redwood trees that were being harvested years ago(where my raw material comes from) were older, more mature trees, old growth in many cases. The amount of tannins, the chemicals that create the red color, ( and keep the termites from eating it), are significantly higher in these older trees. Most redwood you look at today is pink, indicative of trees that were only 20-40 years old when harvested. My boxes are made from 100% repurposed redwood material. The lumber is headed for the landfill when I get it, not because it is garbage, but because the lumber used to build the deck understructures was not pressure treated, so it dryrots. I will have better pictures up soon, along with detailed price sheets. Until then, contact me at bappleton01@yahoo.com, for pricing and shipping details.
